Resource Allocation in General Queueing Networks
نویسنده
چکیده
We consider the problem of how best to assign the service effort in a queueing network in order to minimize the expected delay under a cost constraint. We shall study systems with several types of customers, general service time distributions, stochastic or deterministic routing, and a variety of service regimes. For such networks there are typically no analytical formulae for the waiting time distributions. Thus, we shall approach the optimal allocation problem using approximation techniques, in particular, the residual-life approximation (Pollett (1984)) for the distribution of queueing times. This work generalizes results of Kleinrock (1964), who studied networks with exponentially distributed service times.

Fuzzy Hierarchical Location-Allocation Models for Congested Systems
There exist various service systems that have hierarchical structure. In hierarchical service networks, facilities at different levels provide different types of services. For example, in health care systems, general centers provide low-level services such as primary health care services, while the specialized hospitals provide high-level services. Because of demand congestion in service networ...

متن کاملVLSI implementation of a fairness ATM buffer system
This paper presents a VESI implementation of a resource allocation scheme, based on the concept of weighted fair queueing. The design can be used in Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) networks to ensure fairness and robustness. Weighted fair queueing is a scheduling and buffer management scheme that can provide a resource allocation policy and enforcement of this policy. It can be used in network...
متن کاملResource Allocation in Networks: A Case Study of the Influence Model
The allocation of resources in networks is studied in the context of the influence model, a stochastic network model composed of interacting Markov chains. First, some new results regarding the influence model are presented. Next, a specific resource allocation problem is posed, and three different methods for allocating resource are described and analyzed. Both the structure of the resource al...
متن کاملA New Fairness Index and Novel Approach for QoS-Aware Resource Allocation in LTE Networks Based on Utility Functions
Resource allocation techniques have recently appeared as a widely recognized feature in LTE networks. Most of existing approaches in resource allocation focus on maximizing network’s utility functions. The great potential of utility function in improving resource allocation and enhancing fairness and mean opinion score (MOS) indexes has attracted large efforts over the last few years. In this p...
